“A wild concoction of world, funk and cinematic soundtrack delights. If Thievery Corporation and Khruangbin had a musical offspring, Flyjack would surely rare its slinky head. A ravishing collection of instrumental narratives and danceable jaunts.” – Glide
“Some of the rawest funk to come out of Texas in decades” – Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show, BBC-6, UK
“Flyjack has proven time and time again just how hard they can get a crowd funked up, be it onstage to a packed house or just for one person absolutely losing their mind while dancing at home.” – KUT-FM
“Flyjack’s mission is twofold – to resurrect rare groove classics while energizing a new generation of music-lovers.” – Roots & Beats
“High octane funk and roll, these cats keep Mother’s Finest as their ace in the hole and give the party the kick start it needs.” – Midwest Record
“We like Flyjack’s humble brag that they play ‘superbad funk that runs hotter than a ’69 Cadillac on high octane’. – Austin American Statesman
On September 1, 2021, Flyjack will release its latest and most ambitious album to date, Pan Am, featuring 8 instrumental originals and a cover of soul jazz classic “Dig On It,” by Jimmy McGriff––all recorded while the band was on hiatus during the Covid pandemic. Pan Am marks the beginning of Flyjack’s label affiliation with Austin/UK independent Big Indie Records.
Flyjack’s founding members – guitarist Buck McKinney and bassist Brad Bradburn – hail from the groundbreaking Austin alternative-jazz group Gnappy, which released 3 well-received albums between 2001 and 2006, and was featured in the 2003 book “Jambands” by Dean Budnick. Flyjack’s current line-up is rounded out by David Hunter Thacker (Keyboards), Jose Guitierrez (Drums), John Voss (Percussion), Paulo Santos (Sax), Mike Shields (Trumpet), Liam Lord (Trumpet) and Will Wright (Trombone).
