Trainwreck Boyfriend - Trainwreck Boyfriend
On their eponymous debut LP, Philadelphia, PA band Trainwreck Boyfriend craft uplifting, energetic synth-pop with an alt-rock edge. Produced by Kyle Pulley (Diet Cig, Hop Along) at Headroom Studios, the record offers a swath of deeply engaging melody, from guitar fuzz-driven tracks to 80s-flecked pop-rock confections. Heightened by unexpected nuance and compelling, intentional arrangement, the record is sure to resonate with lovers of the up-front hook.
Trainwreck Boyfriend was born of a serendipitous meeting of musicians at two shows by The Beths in 2023. Inspired by their shared love of female-fronted indie rock, it was clear they were destined to collaborate. Frontwoman/ keyboardist Greta Madeline spent years teaching English before fully embracing music as her calling. A lifelong songwriter, she is obsessed with hooks and lyrics that resonate. Guitarist Billy Hook brings a deft touch with layered textures. The lineup is rounded out by Dez, a guitarist with classical roots; drummer Franz, Madeline’s longtime studio collaborator; bassist Charlie Evans; and Kristin Leland on co-vocals and rhythm guitar.
The songs on their album were written in the band’s Philadelphia loft and their practice studio; the cityscape outside their windows inspired reflections on connection, resilience, and the human experience – threads that run throughout the record.
Trainwreck Boyfriend’s music explores themes of belonging, empowerment, and the messy beauty of human relationships. From the search for self-acceptance and community, to the risks that come with emotional vulnerability, laced with moments of unabashed joy and hope, Trainwreck Boyfriend is a melodic snapshot of the human experience.
Intimate and uplifting, the record is a true celebration of the misfits, dreamers, and “invisible” heroes among us. Trainwreck Boyfriend invites listeners to celebrate their uniqueness, embrace their emotions, and find strength in collective acceptance.
