Round Mountain Announces Spring & Summer Tour In Support Of New Album The Goat
Red Shield Music has announced dates for the spring and summer tour of Santa Fe-based duo Round Mountain in support of their fourth studio album The Goat, releasing on July 2nd, 2013. The highly-anticipated album follows the band’s 2009 full-length Windward and showcases their unique sound that has been spanning alt-folk and world genres since 2002. The Goat features many guest musicians including Anais Mitchell, Moira Smiley, Brass Menažeri and folk legend Andy Irvine. Round Mountain’s tour will include stops in WA, OR, CA, OK, VA, MD, NY, ME, VT, MA, and NJ.
After years of global travel and immersion in Appalachian, Celtic, West African, Balkan and Middle-Eastern music, brothers Char and Robby Rothschild bring listeners to a place of musical grounding and connection. On The Goat and on stage, Char Rothschild sings and plays accordion, guitar or dobro, together with trumpet or Bulgarian gaida, and highland bagpipes. Robby Rothschild sings and plays percussion, notably the West African djembe and Peruvian cajon. He also plays the West African harp known as the kora, and the Irish bouzouki.
The Goat was mostly recorded at Frogville Studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico and was mixed and co-produced by Char and Robby Rothschild, composer/musician Michael Chorney, and the album’s main engineer Bill Palmer. Jon Gagan at Electric Company, Pete Solomon at Bear Creek, and Myles Boissen at Guerrilla Recording also assisted in engineering The Goat, and it was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music.
Since their last release, Round Mountain has achieved a new height of confidence and maturity. “I feel we’ve become more relaxed about letting what’s imperfect shine out,” says Robby. “We’ve found a balance between our dreams and the actual grit of pursuing them,” adds Char. The new album centers around the image of a goat, which represents an older, simpler way of life, and aims to honor the animals that have provided the brothers with inspiration, stories and instruments (the djembe, kora and gaida all employ goat skin). The love and respect even continues at home, where Robby’s family keeps Nigerian Dwarf milk goats.
