Alice Glass - PREY//IV

Eating Glass

Alice Glass is one of the most recognizable and singular voices in the last decade of electronic pop, leaving an unmistakable mark on the genre with her versatile ability to go from an eerie lilt to an absolute roar. As one-half of Crystal Castles, she received critical acclaim internationally including NME’s John Peel Award For Innovation in Music in 2011 as well as receiving a Best New Album designation from Pitchfork. Glass has captivated audiences across the globe with her intense, in-your-face performance style, and she’s also been featured in fashion campaigns by Alexander McQueen and other notable designers. After releasing her self-titled EP in 2017, Glass’ debut album PREY//IV marks the continuation of the healing process following the abusive treatment she survived as one-half of Crystal Castles. A collaborative effort with producer and musician Jupiter io, PREY//IV came together over the last four years as Glass and her partner Jupiter worked on writing and recording the album from the confines of their basement. Spanning sheets of splattered noise-pop, jagged electro shapes, and rubbery rhythms bouncing under coruscating synths, PREY//IV continues Glass’ personal mission to share her vital music to anyone with whom it will provide a necessary refuge. “I hope this record reaches those who need to know that they are not alone in this world—who need to know that it’s ok to be hurting,” she ruminates. “I hope, for some, that it will give them the courage to find a path away from the toxic situations they are experiencing.”
