worry - Positive Memory
FROMTHESTRAIT: “a stellar mix of dreamy shoegaze and heavy emo from the Québec City band. Driving guitar riffs and pounding drums are balanced by softvocals that build into a scream”
BUZZYBAND: “Sweet Winter” melts melancholy into distortion, wrapping loneliness in layers oflush, aching sound. WORRY captures the quiet sting of isolation and turns it into something beautifully defiant, like smoke curling through the cold.
MONTREAL ROCKS: “Kerry mixes nostalgia of the 90s with a fresh take on the genre, fusing a sound that is unique, yet recognizable, like a strong Déjà-Vu you can’t pin down.”
WORRY is a noisy and emotional wave of sound capturing a warm feeling of nostalgia, like watching childhood home movies on a broken TV.
Songwriter Kerry Samuels fronts WORRY, using their own life experience to inspire lyrics and the emotions to the songs.
Positive Memory is the debut album from Québec City based, alternative “emo-gaze” band, WORRY. It’s a collection of songs and soundscapes that tell a story of growing up between a small town and the countryside. Singer/songwriter, Kerry Samuels, pulls inspiration from their childhood as well as their current life experiences to compose the lyrics and the songs. With themes of loss, growth, boredom, and love. The songs span from high energy hitters like “sweet winter” and “cold weather // hard conversation” to emotional ballads like “headrush” and “cold embrace.”
Positive Memory was recorded, mixed, and co-produced by bandmate, Gaspard Eden (Joey Proteau) at Le Pantoum. Eden is a long time collaborator and trusted member of the project WORRY, having helped Kerry take the songs from just demos on a laptop, to complete pieces that project the sound and emotional themes Kerry was aiming to capture.
Kerry also was accompanied in the studio by their romantic and professional partner, l i l a (Marianne Poirier) not only for vocals, but to be a second pair of ears and a 3rd party perspective.
l i l a continues to aid in this project by helping with the creative direction by filming, taking photos, and directing the majority of the music videos, promos, and the cover art(s) of the singles and the album.
“I wanted to paint a picture of what my childhood looks like when I close my eyes. I feel like these songs and the samples used, help depict that very well, by being chaotic at times yet peaceful at others. You can feel it mainly in the interlude ‘sacred communications’ which I wanted to feel as if you’re taking a nap on the couch after school with the TV on and your mom’s making dinner”
