Yellow Pills - An Evening With Yellow Pills
“Absolutely timeless. Genre diversity fuels what Ryan is doing as Yellow Pills. I love it.” – Jim DeRogatis, Sound Opinions
“The bizarre sense of humor with song titles however has nothing on the music, which will be appreciated by those of you who dig bands like Combustible Edison, The Ventures, Gogol Bordello or Booker T among others. The project feels like it’s all encompassing of many genre’s and pulls them into a blender and spits them back out, sometimes in a mixed up fashion.” – Rebel Noise
On March 17, 2025, Yellow Pills performed alongside Cowboy Neal and Kid Copter in Chicago, unknowingly capturing what would become their first live album. Recorded at Beat Kitchen, the performance documents a pivotal moment for the project, which began as a solo endeavor and has since evolved into a fully realized five-piece band.
Driven by swirling synth and organ textures, virtuosic guitar work, deep-pocket bass, free-jazz-leaning saxophone, and dynamic drumming, Yellow Pills create a garage-kraut-jazz hybrid of instrumental exploration. This rare live recording places the listener squarely in the hardwood-floored room with roughly 150 attendees, sharing the energy of a warm evening and the debut presentation of Yellow Pills in their complete full-band form. While the group approaches their work with a sense of humor and looseness, the result is a striking blend of psychedelic indie rock that feels immersive, expansive, and almost intoxicating.
