Mint 400 Records, known for reimagining the work of musical icons, announces its latest tribute compilation, Sound & Vision (The Songs of David Bowie). Following past collections dedicated to Tom PettyLou ReedLink WrayThe Beach Boys’ Pet SoundsNirvana’s In Utero, and entire decades like the ’60s, ’80s, and ’90s, the label now turns its focus to one of music’s most enduring figures.

David Bowie was more than a songwriter—he was a cultural architect. Over five decades, he reinvented himself as often as he reshaped the sound of popular music. From the otherworldly glam of Ziggy Stardust to the sleek grooves of Young Americans, the avant-garde edge of the Berlin Trilogy, and the stadium-filling anthems of the ’80s, Bowie’s chameleon-like creativity blurred lines between art, theater, and rock ’n’ roll. His grandeur and visionary persona left a mark not only on music, but on fashion, film, and the very concept of what it means to be an artist.

Sound & Vision features Mint 400’s own roster and a handful of label friends reinterpreting Bowie classics with fresh perspective and respect for his legacy. Those Mockingbirds deliver a fierce rocking version of “I’m Afraid of Americans,” while Young Legs inject electro indie noise energy into “Moonage Daydream.” Strange Neighbors capture the playful brilliance of “Oh! You Pretty Things,” in their Brooklyn indie pop signature sound as does Dorothea Tachler of My Favourite Things on her version of “Five Years.” Renee Maskin lends her indie folk take to “Modern Love,” and Tabitha Booth delivers a haunting “Rock ’n’ Roll Suicide.” Other highlights include The Funky JC’s with a reimagined Devo-ish “Rebel Rebel,” Please Be Careful’s instrumental take on “Changes,” Yellow Pills with a smooth jazzy surfy version of “The Man Who Sold the World,” While Looser & Cloakz (both bands comprised of Tony Aquillino and Zachary Ciancaglini plus friends) offering their fuzzed out takes on “Heroes” and “Sound and Vision”. The Extensions bring a great groove to “Let’s Dance,” while Fairmont explores the layered Indie Rock textures of “Ashes to Ashes.” All this from the Mint 400 Records roster is in addition to a bunch of friends lending their own unique takes on Bowie. The mission was clear from the start as when Neil Sabatino (owner of Mint 400 Records and member of Fairmont & Please Be Careful) put out the call he was clear, “I don’t want a cover band version, I want your bands own unique take”.

With Mint 400 Records Presents: Sound & Vision (The Songs of David Bowie), the label continues its mission of celebrating timeless artistry through modern voices. This collection is both a tribute and proof that Bowie’s songs, and the spirit behind them, remain as vital and inspiring as ever.
