Theophilus London's genre-bending approach draws from a range of styles, from soul-pop and post-punk to electro and contemporary R&B. Citing influences that include Michael Jackson and Prince as well as Kraftwerk and the Smiths. For his official label debut Timez Are Weird These Days, the Trinidad-born, Brooklyn based rapper pairs his signature blend of rapping and singing over the kind of eclectic, off-the-wall production he's become known for.

The first two singles showcase the boiling pot of genres on the album perfect. "Last Name London" is an indie, electro pop and hip hop synthesis that plays hand in hand with London's rhymes, while "Why Even Try," slows the tempo and introduces the calming sound of Sara Quin's (of Tegan & Sara) voice. The versatile London also called on production from TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek and John Hill who worked with Santigold to round out his sound.
