The Campbell Apartment - (510)

“At once chaotic, melodic and literate.  A powerful set of songs, rendered expertly and passionately by one of my favorite songwriters.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.” – Chris Collingwood, Fountains Of Wayne

The Campbell Apartment has passion, intelligence and melodies and phrases that stick pleasingly in your head”. – Danny Goldberg

“A little bit Velvets, a lot Big Star, indie band The Campbell Apartment is having a moment a whopping 20 years after their debut.  Listen and you’ll see why”. – Dan Morrissey, Executive Editor, Creem Magazine

“The trio walks the ever shifting line between knowing detachment and painful vulnerability.  The instant you ease into one mode, the tone or the tempo change and you’re whipsawed into the other. ” – Anthony DeCurtis, Rolling Stone Magazine

Indie rock band, The Campbell Apartment, released their 8th album on February 28th, 2025. Fronted by Moscow born Ari Vais, the album title (510) refers to the East Bay in California (Oakland, Berkeley et al). Mr. Vais has called a multitude of places home: Moscow, Rome, Vienna, LA, Boston, Western Mass., London, Richmond, VA, San Francisco, never knowing exactly where home is, nor what to say when asked “where are you from”?

Openly accepting and embracing that the East Bay in the SF Bay Area is officially home now, the album reflects on topics as vast as life, fatherhood, isolation, joy, anger, beating addiction, the election and love – and he swears all 11 tracks are the catchiest songs of his career, a career spanning 30 years and now 120+ songs. (510) wraps up in under 30 minutes, keeping true to classic pop-song-length form, and was produced by legendary Bay Area producer/engineer Chris Dunn.

This album feels both raw and exceptionally well produced, and is the most emotionally intimate writing for the band and at the same time – most radio-friendly. Written in the hours (often in the 30 minutes) before the recording session for each song started, (510) has an effortless, unlabored, un-edited feel to it, features Vais’s strongest vocal delivery, and is a great leap for an artist with such a long and critically acclaimed career.
