Tess & Dave is the new recording project of Tess Shapiro and David Vandervelde. After releasing two vastly different albums on Secretly Canadian, David Vandervelde established himself as one of those "favorite bands" of your favorite band, and one of the best "guitars-for-hire" in the country. Following a relocation from Nashville to Chicago, Chicago to Los Angeles, and then a chance encounter in a Long Beach cafe, Dave met Tess. Together, they were able to leave pain behind, and began writing and recording this collection of songs. Tess & Dave's debut showcases their lush musical compositions in tandem with, at times rueful and wry lyrical expressions of personal heartache, loss and self discovery. Their forthcoming debut full length will be released in early 2017.
• Tess & Dave toured the entire US as main support for Father John Misty in the Spring of 2016, playing to sold out crowds every night
• Dave lived, learned from, and recorded with the late Jay Bennett (Wilco)
• Dave has toured in support of Spoon, Magnolia Electric Company, Dr. Dog, Bobby Bare Jr., Delta Spirit, Blitzen Trapper, Heartless Bastards, and Richard Swift
• Dave plays guitar in Father John Misty's live band
• Recorded on the beach with Frank Lenz (Damien Jurado, Starflyer 59, Pedro the Lion) & Eli Thomson (Father John Misty, Everest, Richard Swift)
• Debut release for Friendship Fever Records
