After setting the internet on fire with his intoxicating live show and performing as main support for the likes of Tenacious D and Tool, Rock ‘N’ Roll maverick Steel Beans is gearing up to release his new self-titled album on October 9 via APESHIT Records & EMPIRE. Written and produced entirely by Steel Beans, the record features collaborations with Anderson .Paak and Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age.
Of the album, Steel Beans explains, “Like any writer I’m documenting some literal and abstract things through the lens of my personality, stemming from the fact that in my case that’s a few dozen different personalities instead of one. This album is full of honest performances and ideas that I may not be able to pull off, but that’s the charm. Frankly, it’s full of mistakes, which is what the world needs now more than anything.”
In conjunction, Steel Beans unveils the album’s high-octane single “Stowaway,” which premieres today via FLOOD Magazine. “Stowaway” layers driving rhythms with textured melodies, creating a sound that feels both urgent and immersive. The vocals cut through the mix with intensity, balancing raw emotion against a polished, dynamic production. The song was also released alongside an accompanying self-directed music video, which was filmed (without a permit) at El Matador State Beach in Malibu, CA, and is blended with stop motion collage work and hand drawn animations. “I think this is one of those songs that’s better if I don’t stigmatize it by saying what it’s about in terms of lyrics,” says Steel Beans. “But one wild guess would be that ‘Stowaway’ is about a court jester prophet sent to save planet earth but the timing is off by a mere 50 years too late or too soon. So in a world dominated by apathy amid self loathing he instead mows lawns and writes songs that subliminally and cryptically tell his story.”
Steel Beans (aka Jeremy DeBardi) is a composer, visual artist, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker. Embarking on a multi-threat career which includes acting, stand-up and scoring/producing for Film/TV. An apropos measure of his will to create art regardless of the limitations of the circumstance, medium, or equipment, is the fact that he is truly committed to the standard of whatever song or video he is creating in that moment being the best thing he has ever done in his life. Steel Beans gets lost in that inspiration such that nothing else exists; this is the Zen he is chasing.
Most recently, Steel Beans inked a deal with Anderson .Paak’s APESHIT Records. Of the signing, Anderson proclaims, “I’ll be damned if he ain’t the craziest MF I’ve seen in my life. I’m excited to watch him bring back Rock ‘N’ Roll and shake things up. The game really needs his energy right now.”
