soft siren - 4AM
soft siren’s debut album 4AM is a cinematic collection of songs steeped in nostalgia, longing, obsession, and the quiet unraveling of the late-night mind. Their music exists somewhere between the cinematic mystique of David Lynch, the psychedelic romanticism of the late 1960s, and the atmospheric melancholy of the 1990s, reminiscent of bands such as Mazzy Star, Slowdive, and Lush.
Written and recorded over several years, ethereal yet sultry vocals float over washed-out guitars, atmospheric textures, and downcast grooves. The album drifts between love, California heat, alienation, comedowns, bad decisions, and the strange clarity that comes when everyone else is asleep.
“4am” — the dreamy indie rock song that introduced the band, — opens the record, quickly followed by the shimmering, psychedelic-pop tinged “When Morning Comes Around,” released this summer. From there, the album descends further into psychedelia with “Almost Crying” and “Like You Found God,” before arriving at the jangly, ’60s West Coast inspired “California Heatwave”.
“Low” cools things down, pulling the album into a darker, ’90s grunge-and-trip-hop-inspired lane that leads into the hypnotic, cinematic, and sultry “Too Far Gone”. “Feeling Down” closes the album on a dreamlike, hazy, yet uplifting note. Mixed and mastered by Grammy-award winning Chris Sorem (Los Lobos, Rufus Wainwright) and featuring drums by Kyle Jeffrey Crane (Neko Case, Lorde, Empire of the Sun).
In conjunction with the album, the band has launched 4AM CONFESSIONS, an anonymous confessional project inviting strangers to share the secrets, memories, and thoughts that keep them awake at night. Inspired by the emotional world of the record, the campaign extends 4AM beyond music into a collective exploration of vulnerability, anonymity, and human connection. At once intimate and expansive, 4AM is a magnetic debut.
