Renowned for his prowess in the realm of comic books, Shane-Michael Vidaurri takes center stage once again, this time as a musical visionary. Teaming up with long time collaborators for part of this album Hanslowe brothers, Alec and Tom (Mister Tom), known for their Mint 400 Record bands The Ashes and The Old Glorys, as well as work on Vidaurri’s previous 3 solo albums. However on the newest release “Shane-Michael Merritt Vidaurri / And /Friends” Vidaurri called on a constellation of guest appearances, including Jess Thompson with Big Hit TV, Young Legs, Pat Byrne (WFMU, Prove It All Night) & Jon Lango (Crazy & The Brains), Fairmont, Kevin Farrell of NYT, and comics writer Frank Barbiere, resulting in a genre-defying musical experience. Drawing on his graphic novel acumen, the award-winning Shane-Michael Vidaurri infuses the album with a rich tapestry of sounds, every song masterfully written by Vidaurri. The concept was to involve his friends to cover their favorite things from Vidaurri’s large catalog as motivation for Vidaurri to formulate a new album around.
Vidaurri’s artistic prowess extends beyond music; he holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Philadelphia University of the Arts, with a footprint in Image Comics, Boom! Studios, WIN, The Indypendent, and Powerpop Comics. As the author and illustrator of the acclaimed 2013 graphic novel “Iron: or, the War After,” Vidaurri’s creative range shines.
