Sasha Dawe - Here I Am [EP]

19th & 7th

When we think of great music, we think of timeless music. Sasha’s odyssey continues to defy expectation, he possesses an authentic style that has an undeniable historical feel to it. His sound warmly embraces country-folk fused with contemporary blues music, but also retaining an African twist.

An unconventional upbringing, Sasha was born in Namibia and spent his formative years in Africa, growing up on a mine far from civilization. He took to his music at a young age and immersed himself in the musical culture of his surroundings. In 2023 Sasha released his first album of 13 songs called ‘The Boat’. With his distinct personality and voice, he envelops listeners with deeply poetic narratives that resonate universally. The Namibian’s intuitive lyrical prowess shines through illustrative verses and radiant playful sounds. A poet and insightful storyteller at heart, he celebrates the intricacies of life by exploring universal emotions and challenging deeply-held assumptions through his work. Sasha’s music redefines modern folk music by exuding a sublime youthful freedom with his insightful storytelling and post-punk african feel. Soft guitar melodies and slides, dreamy piano embellishments and catchy phrasing, all form part of his mesmerizing acoustic shoe-gazing soundscape and production style.

Reminiscent of Jeff Tweedy’s sideways sarcasm or John Martyn’s explorative jazz-leanings, his sound is inspired by old school folk legends like Leonard CohenJ.J. CaleTia Blake and the South African, Jeremy Taylor.

In his new upcoming 5-track EP ‘Here I Am’, Sasha leans into his African heritage, exploring the roots of his upbringing and allowing a deepening of the relationship with his home. The new songs delve into the esoteric nature of our sun and explore meaning through resilience in hardship. The project is to be released with 3 music videos which were filmed in different parts of the Namibian wilderness. These add a whole new eclectic dimension to the artist’s presentation of the project and allow the listeners to experience the songs in an even more personalized manner.
