Samantha Crain - Gumshoe

Real Kind

Samantha Crain has returned with the announcement of her new album Gumshoe today, the Choctaw singer-songwriter’s seventh full-length record and first original solo release since 2021’s I Guess We Live Here Now EP. Arriving May 2, 2025 via Real Kind Records, the Americana-spritzed project encases 11 songs of burgeoning curiosity and desire for symbiotic community.

At its core, Gumshoe is a record about reciprocity; a deconstruction of the false premonition that Crain was destined to always be an outsider. A lone wolf for most of her life, the singer and guitarist had, until recently, spent the majority of her life by her own solitary terms, dependent on nobody but herself and expecting no dependence in return. But over the past few years, Samantha’s experiences helping her partner navigate their addiction, immersing herself within her community while working at a wildcare rescue and a liquor store, and discovering how to love and be loved, have realized the idea that devoting your emotional energy to others is an investment that pays for itself.

Alongside the news of GumshoeSamantha has released her new single “Dart”. Following on the heels of her recent tracks “Ridin’ Out The Storm” and “Dragonfly” – the latter of which was praised by KCRW as a “raw-edged blend of indie rock and country folk” and co-signed by Iggy Pop on his BBC6 Radio show – “Dart” marks her third offering so far from the record. A dreamy folk song as much as it is a gateway into the essence of Gumshoe, “Dart” waltzes with delicately-plucked guitars and lyrics that vividly articulate the early stages of lovesickness; when our mind fills in the unknown blanks of someone we’re falling for, and projects the person we long for them to really be.

Later this spring, Samantha will hit the road for an enormous global headlining tour to perform songs from Gumshoe live for the first time. Kicking off with a pair of home-state shows in Oklahoma this May, the tour will see her traveling to numerous cities in the UK, Europe and North America throughout spring and summer. General on-sale tickets for the 42-date tour are available now here (contact us with any requests)!

Since releasing her last full-length LP A Small Death in 2020, and 2021 EP I Guess We Live Here Now, the Choctaw songwriter, musician, producer, and singer has left her fingerprint across the worlds of film & TV over the past few years. Samantha has crafted music for several acclaimed projects, contributing a cover rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” for a pivotal scene in the Emmy-nominated FX series Reservation Dogs, and most recently composing the score for the award-winning feature film Fancy Dance starring Lily Gladstone. The latter of which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2023, with her music being hailed as a “wonderfully evocative score of tribal voices and spare melodies” by the Los Angeles Times.

Samantha’s multi-faceted discography has been applauded by the likes of The New York Times, Paste, SPIN, BBC 6 Music, NPR, No Depression, The Guardian, NME, Uncut and more, with her last full-length album A Small Death landing on Rolling Stone’s list of the best music of 2020. Having shared stages with Neutral Milk Hotel, Brandi Carlile, Lucy Rose, First Aid Kit, The Avett Brothers, and The Mountain Goats, among others, she has toured extensively over the past 15 years with a dynamic range of performances that span full-orchestration to intimate solo performances.
