'SPIN first championed Royal Bangs back in 2008, when they played an overlooked set on the first night of Bonnaroo. In three short years, the Knoxville, TN, trio have come a long way: they've been backed by the Black Keys' Patrick Carney — who released the group's first two albums on his Audio Eagle imprint — and, most recently, signed with Glassnote Records, who have helped break acts like Mumford and Sons and Phoenix here in the States.

Royal Bangs will release their third album on Flux Outside on March 29, and SPIN is offering a free download of the leadoff track, "Fireball." Pick it up here.

For the album, Royal Bangs teamed up with Flaming Lips and MGMT producer Dave Fridmann for a wild, raucous collection that dips into everything from zonked-out psychedelia to pummeling prog-rock odysseys like "Fireball." "We spent a lot of time choosing sounds for this record," singer Ryan Schaefer says. "We didn't have to keep asking Dave to push it harder, or make it weirder. He was on the same page from day one."
