“On their remarkably self-assured 1999 debut, the indie rock band were already in possession of the wry, morbid sensibility that would define them.” – Pitchfork (Best New Reissue – 8.0)

Rilo Kiley have announced plans to re-issue their extremely rare self-titled debut album from 1999. The recording, originally pressed only on CD and sold exclusively at the band’s early shows, has been out of print since its original pressing 21 years ago. Rilo Kiley will be made available on digital DSPs October 2nd, and limited edition vinyl on November 20th via Little Record Company, the label started by Rilo Kiley’s own Pierre de Reeder. The vinyl package includes gate-fold and colored vinyl.

There weren’t many unsigned bands being played on MTV in 1999, but Rilo Kiley’s much loved first video, directed by Morgan J Freeman, debuted on the network’s iconic 120 Minutes, marking the band’s first exposure beyond the Los Angeles music scene. The hastily made, and utterly charming, video for “Frug” includes scenes from Freeman’s feature film Desert Blue, starring Kate Hudson, Casey Affleck, and Christina Ricci.

Rilo Kiley went on to release four more enduringly influential and much loved studio albums: 2001’s Take Offs And Landings, 2002’s The Execution Of All Things, 2004’s More Adventurous & 2007’s Under The Blacklight.

Radio has also supported rKives as well as all of Jenny Lewis‘ solo albums, including last years On The Line which charted on NACC for 24 weeks and peaked in the Top 3 on the Top 200!
