"Okkervil River's Will Sheff grew up in Meriden, New Hampshire-- the town that was partially the inspiration behind his band's new LP The Silver Gymnasium (out September 3 via ATO). In a new video, he traveled back to the area where he grew up, teamed up with his childhood friend Aaron Johnson, and performed album cut "Down Down the Deep River" at various New England open mic nights." - Pitchfork 
Okkervil River's new album 'The Silver Gymnasium' was inspired by Will Sheff's childhood in the 1980s - the era of video games like Leisure Suit Larry, Maniac Mansion, and King's Quest. To pay homage to those early games, Sheff created his own online adventure game in partnership with Eyes And Ears' Benjamin Miles.  For the soundtrack, Sheff composed and performed chiptune versions of songs from the album - including "Down Down the Deep River," "Lido Pier Suicide Car," "It Was My Season," and "Black Nemo"- and did the game's sound design as well.
