New Translations - Vacation
“Nashville is synonymous with country music, but a new wave of pop is having its moment…avant-guard synth-rock band [New Translations] represent a once-overlooked segment of Music City.” – Rolling Stone
New Translations invites listeners to join them on a trip through 11 tracks, jetting from moments of lovelorn 21st century new wave, to bold, emotionally charged pop. A glitchy beat sets “who i am tonight” in motion, punctuated by echoes of neon keys and thick bass. Frontman Oliver Pierce’s baritone vocals boom over hazy synths on the hook, “I love being myself when I’m with you.” The glassy “TV at Home” tempers organic instrumentation with warm electronics. Elsewhere, airy keyboard transmissions give way to a rapturous buildup on “Weatherman.” It overflows with swagger as an urgent plea resounds, “Love me until I don’t believe a word you say.” Then, there’s “Love Bombb.” Loose delay-drenched guitar washes over head-nodding drums as the chorus glimmers, “If I could keep you, I’d keep you…your consolation prize.”Ultimately, New Translations build the ultimate sonic destination with Vacation.
They notably paved the way for the LP with “Coldest Century.” Earning critical acclaim, American Songwriter praised, “It’s introspective, nostalgic, and creates a sense of wintertime yearning.” The album also boasts “Post Hang,” which continues to pick up traction on DSPs. Other singles include “Voided Velvet” with Michigander, in addition to “Vacation,” “Sally,” and “Rat People.” WNSM Radio states, “I think they might be addictive. I’m ready to drop everything – and you should too -… If this is a cult, sign me up.”
New Translations is getting ready to hit the road on their “Vacation” tour, which includes 17 headlining dates, followed by tours supporting Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Vlad Holiday. Full routing can be found below and tickets are available for purchase HERE.
Biting, genuine, thoughtful, playful, joyful, and sincere, Nashville’s New Translations embrace contradictions and exist to confound—a band that captures the dizzy surreality of being alive in confusing times. After a series of singles and EPs like 2023’s The Business, New Translations—singer Oliver Pierce, multi-instrumentalists Isaac Middleton and Andres Ahogado, bassist and producer Ben Dunn, and drummer Philip Walker—have settled into a new era that finds them doubling down on their complexities, while writing some of their most vulnerable songs to date.
With their new music, the members of New Translations stand confident in their role as boundary pushers and leaders of a non-country music vanguard in Nashville. Their mission remains: “I want us to find the outsiders and create a community that celebrates the strange,” Pierce says.
