Known Moons - Everything is Beginning to End
Known Moons is an alternative-indie rock band featuring current and former members of M.A.G.S., The Fatty Acids and Dinner Set Gang.
Known Moons made its debut with a five-song EP titled Everything Is, which was released on streaming services on February 13, 2024.
Everything Is was written and recorded as a collaborative effort between frontman Andrew James, Elliott Douglas of M.A.G.S. and Josh Evert of Silver City Studios. Douglas made the trek from Los Angeles to Milwaukee to spend a week hunkered down at Silver City Studios, writing and recording.
The band’s first single, “By the Billions,” was released on October 31, 2023, and was paired with a music video shot and edited by Ryan Reeve and Josh Evert. “By the Billions” introduced listeners to the catchy hooks, bouncy chord progressions and dreamy bridges that make up the core anatomy of a Known Moons song.
On the band’s second single, “A Coffin for a Cosmos,” lo-fi drum sampling, a driving bass line and extraterrestrial guitar licks set the pace for James to demonstrate his metaphorical lyrics and rapid-fire vocal delivery. Like many of songs in the Known Moons catalog, “A Coffin for a Cosmos” is a commentary on consumerism and greed with themes of isolation and an uncertain future.
The final single from Everything Is, “This Hell,” is at times the band’s most atmospheric track, yet is also the band’s most electric – a fuzzed-out guitar solo and a dynamic buildup lead to an explosive ending. “This Hell” was also paired with a music video shot and edited by Timothy Moder.
Soon after the release of Everything Is, the trio reunited at Silver City Studios for another week of writing and recording. This effort led to the songs that will soon be released on the band’s follow-up Beginning to End on Friday, March 27, 2026.
With the band performing regularly the lineup has expanded to include Ben Giddens (bass) and Danny Walkowiak (drums) as permanent members while Elliott and Josh remain on as writing and recording partners. Giddens can be found contributing bass to each of the songs on Beginning to End.
In addition to the expanded permanent lineup, Known Moons enlisted a few guests to help elevate the sonic landscape of the new songs.
Steve Lamos of American Football contributes a trumpet solo to the EP’s lead single “TIME,” which also features The Happy Fits’ Calvin Langman on Cello. Langman also adds cello to the EP’s title track, as well as the EP’s second single “Under the Sword” which features Connor Erickson of Barely Civil on guest vocals. The band tapped Sean Hirthe (Saxophone on “Under the Sword”) and Lora Kosanke (Violin on “Beginning to End”) to round out the recording lineup.
On March 6, 2026, the band released the EP’s title track, announced the EP’s release date, and launched the pre-order for their first physical media release in the form of a dual EP 12” record. The vinyl record combines both EPs into the fittingly titled Everything is Beginning to End. Both the EP as well as the 12” record will become available on Friday, March 27, 2026. The vinyl record was manufactured by Precision Record Pressing and features artwork by Harrison Colby.
The name Known Moons stems from a desire to not rest on one’s laurels, and it continues to serve as an abstract mission statement for the band: push beyond what is known.
