Kingfisher - All Pain No Gain
All Pain No Gain, the first full length album from Ottawa Ontario’s Kingfisher cements their reputation as being a band with their roots set firmly in the nostalgia of the 80’s and 90’s while being unafraid to tackle the future head-on. Four years of writing, rehearsing and touring has refined their sound, which can be described as a mash up of skate punk, college rock, power pop, with a splash of Thin Lizzy guitar licks and vocal harmonies tight enough to make the Beach Boys jealous.
After releasing three EP’s in their first year of existence, they followed that with 2023’s release of Kingfisher II, a short format LP which began to hint at the band they were in the verge of becoming. On completion of their touring schedule for Kingfisher II, the band decided it was time to push all their chips in and go for broke. Writing for All Pain No Gain began in December 2023, an initial group of roughly 30 songs was carved down to the final 12 which have made the cut.
In true throwback fashion, Kingfisher maintained their 100% DIY approach to their craft, with all writing, recording, mastering and production completed by the five members. The project took nearly a year to complete, which culminated with them signing on with Steady Riot Records for the release.
The first single, Small World, was released on April 1 2025 in advance of the full LP release, available on May 9 2025 on Steady Riot Records. Positive critical feedback has started to return on the single, with the song already having been added to CBC’s national virtual music library. Tour dates are currently being booked and announced.
