Ian Galipeau - Faded Pictures

Self-Released

New Hampshire singer-songwriter Ian Galipeau (pronounced GAL-ip-oh) is proud to announce the release of his latest album, Faded Pictures, which is now available for streaming and download. This effort marks a departure from his acoustic-guitar roots, exploring piano-driven arrangements to support his signature style of storytelling and introspective lyrics.

The album opens with “A Couple More to Go,” in which Galipeau wrestles with the inevitability of loss. The haunting “In the Dark” captures the eerie disorientation of grief, while tracks like “Floorboards” and “Getting Dark (Song for a Mars Rover)” showcase his ability to blend personal introspection with more universal themes, dwelling on the beautiful human ability to imbue inanimate objects with meaning.

“I wasn’t consciously crafting an album with this collection of songs,” Galipeau explains. “I just wanted to explore a different instrument, and I found that the piano led me to a very nostalgic place – thinking about time, memory, and loss. I initially grouped these songs because they fit together sonically, but the more I worked on them, the more I saw the thematic ties between them.”

The album showcases Galipeau’s growth as an artist – though they’re still rooted in indie rock, these songs mark a new direction. “I’ve been writing on an acoustic guitar since I was a teenager. I just started playing piano a couple of years ago, and suddenly being a beginner again put me in a whole different headspace, as a writer. Some of these arrangements are rich, but there’s an underlying simplicity because of my technical ceiling. It forced me to think in a very different way, and I love the result.”

Galipeau has spent over 12 years performing around New England, sharing stages with regional mainstays like Arc Iris, Ian Fitzgerald, and Dietrich Strause. The last few years have been his busiest ever – in addition to playing 150+ shows, he’s put out an album (2022’s Like We Were Never Here At All), two EPs, and a handful of singles.

Faded Pictures is out now on all major streaming platforms, with physical copies available through Bandcamp and at live shows.
