Gardenia - Don't Look Up [EP]
Under The Radar: Premiere
“a powerhouse of an alt-rock song that really gets its point across” – New Noise
“Gardenia capture raw energy and deeply personal storytelling” – Earmilk
Can you keep loving something – or someone – that’s let you down? Gardenia wrestles with that question on their explosive new EP, ‘Don’t Look Up’, offering a sharp reply: “Depends. Is the problem you, me, or the country?”. With a reputation for high-voltage live shows and brutally honest songwriting, the Brooklyn-based duo infuses their signature mix of raw energy and emotional depth into this powerful new collection, solidifying their place as one of indie rock’s most thrilling rising acts.
Formed in the backroom of a Manhattan recording studio where the band worked, Gardenia’s story is one of passion and pure rock n’ roll chaos. Consisting of vocalist/bassist Ryan Zakin and drummer Tamir Malik, the duo quickly built a reputation for their unhinged live act, donning suits while thrashing their instruments onstage. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Soundgarden, Arctic Monkeys, and Queens of the Stone Age, Gardenia’s sound fuses gritty instrumentation with introspective lyricism, creating music all about our collective modern life.
Produced by underground rock legend Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Jeff Rosenstock, Gouge Away), the EP has already made waves, receiving coverage from EARMILK, Under the Radar, and New Noise Magazine plus rotation on MTVu. Following the success of their 2023 indie-released debut album, Knowing You Know Nothing, which garnered praise from Ones to Watch, Loudwire, and WNYU, Gardenia is poised to take the next step in their swift rise.
