DeeCRACKS - True Nothing
Let it never be said that DeeCRACKS don’t keep busy! Since their last studio LP, 2021’s Serious Issues, these Vienna, Austria punk rockers celebrated their 20th anniversary, not by kicking back and resting on their laurels, but by RE-RECORDING three 10”s worth of their fan-favorite songs on 2023’s 20 Years. A Frantic Effort, and backing up Andrea Manges for a full album cover of the Ramones’ classic Brain Drain in 2024! All while keeping up a worldwide touring schedule that puts most bands to shame.
And oh yeah, they also found the time to write and record 18 brand new songs for the new LP True Nothing!
The worldwide fanbase of these veteran punkers know what to expect: buzzsaw guitars, deftly executed melodies, and some of the most locked-in, irresistibly catchy punk rock this side of Forest Hills, Queens.
The first single, “Revenge,” is probably the most upbeat & melodic song on the record, and it’s also the only track live audiences have heard so far. Songwriter Matt DeeCRACK likens the song to “Don’t Turn Your Heart Off,” from Serious Issues. “I wanted to write a song that’s essentially about self-motivation. It’s a reminder that whether or not you achieve everything you set out to do, it’s always worth trying,” he says. “I think we could all use a few encouraging words from time to time, especially these days.”
Underneath the gloss of pop sensibility, of course, it’s not all sunshine and encouragement. “Compared to our last record, I’d say this one is a little angrier,” says Matt. “That was very much intentional.” There is a dark undercurrent of pain present in the songs, as the band navigates struggles with mental illness, life, and relationships in a straightforward and confessional manner. Standout tracks like “Hell Today” & “I Don’t Wanna Drag You Down,” strike the perfect balance of anger, melancholy, and sweetness.
On the title track “True Nothing,” which closes out the album, the band sings of a society “where nothing’s ever true,” a confusing and bewildering world for individuals to navigate. “It explores the way some people cope with reality by creating a version of it that aligns entirely with their own beliefs, values, or emotions,” says Matt. “A world where anything that doesn’t fit simply ceases to exist.” Rather than shrink down into depression, however, DeeCRACKS are charging into this world headfirst. After all, “It’s a world for me and you.”
And the next adventure is always just the next city away.
True Nothing by DeeCRACKS is available from Pirates Press Records on 12” Watermelon Cream Vinyl, 12” Ultra Clear Vinyl with Bone & Pink Splatter, and 12” Classic Black Vinyl. It will be available everywhere you get your punk rock vinyl on October 23, 2026.
