Coral Moons - summer of u

Better Company

Coral Moons is an indie pop band that formed on the shores of Boston and recently relocated to the woods of Upstate New York. If they’re not tending to their gardens, taking film photos with vintage cameras, or drinking homemade wine by the fire, they’re touring nationally and hitting up major music festivals on the way.

The solitude and stillness of the cabin has had an immersive impact on lead singer and songwriter, Carly Kraft (she/her). She describes a week at their home studio in the woods, caring for her chickens, as a healing experience. Seeking refuge to heal old wounds, moving to the countryside has forced her to slow down and reclaim what was always hers — her songs.

In August of 2021, the band released their highly anticipated debut album Fieldcrest: a full-length LP produced by Sam Kassirer, best known for his work with Lake Street Dive and Josh Ritter. The release led them to stages around New England and beyond, playing Levitate Music FestivalBoston Calling, and opening for numerous nationally touring acts including RipeDavid ShawAHI, and Motel Radio. The band blends surf-pop with retro rock n’ roll influences to create a signature sound carried by Kraft’s powerful vocals.

summer of u was recorded in Seattle, WA with producer Andy D. Park featuring appearances from Jessica Dobson of Deep Sea Diver on guitar. The band recently had some close friends and family relocate to Seattle, specifically one that had terminal cancer – that made the choice to record in Seattle with Andy a no-brainer. The songs on the album were influenced by the greenery of the Pacific Northwest, so creating among this source of inspiration as well as being surrounded by friends and family was restorative for the band.

The band says “summer of u is a victory album full of moxie. It’s an autobiography that walks you through the twists and turns of being a woman in our society. It reflects on self-doubt and self-loathing whilst bringing you through the journey towards self-worth and self-acceptance.”
