Christina Ward - Neon

Mint 400/Bad Catt

Christina Ward spent her turbulent and unruly childhood voraciously consuming late-60s, 70s, and 80’s era rock and folk music by legends like Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, and Emmylou Harris. She also found herself equally drawn to indie acts like Pixies, Fugazi, Cat Power, and Sonic Youth. This healthy and varied mix of inspiration had a profound effect on her. Blending all of it into a unique and shimmering musical tapestry, Ward’s music features an earnestness found in folk music, a nostalgic, almost haunting production quality found in lo-fi indie pop, and the guitar shredding power of the psychedelic rock she grew up on. It’s all there, rooted in her songwriting, and it feels both classically familiar and curiously brand new.

Christina’s latest LP ‘Neon‘ – is a strong introduction to her fascinating artistry and the full band version of what was previously a solo indie pop folk endeavor. It follows a string of singles she has released since 2020, and an EP called Shapeshifter last year. Recently Ward was invited to play a short run of shows with Anthony Green (Circa Survive, The Sounds Of Animals Fighting), and she was praised by NPR Music and WXPNNeon is the first album to feature collaborations with drummer Tim Arnold, bassist Nawi Avila, and keyboardist Tony Dunst. The LP was mixed by accomplished Philly engineer and producer Jeff Ziegler, who is known for his work with The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, A Sunny Day in Glasgow.
