Capital Cities - A Hurricane Of Frowns

Lazy Hooks

After a six-year album gap, A Hurricane of Frowns by Capital Cities arrives as a retrospective collection that feels both nostalgic and surprisingly fresh. The album is a collection of alternate takes, rarities, remixes, and covers from the era of their 2013 debut In A Tidal Wave of Mystery.

For fans who’ve been patiently waiting since their 2018 LP Solarize, this album doesn’t just offer a stroll down memory lane—it provides an opportunity to hear the band’s evolution from a slightly more experimental angle.

Capital Cities, known for their bright, indie-electro pop sound, delivered one of the defining alt-pop records of the early 2010s with In A Tidal Wave of Mystery.  Tracks like “Safe and Sound” and “Kangaroo Court” were global hits and captured a moment in pop music that was playful, funky, and infectious. A Hurricane of Frowns serves as both a reexamination of that era and a bridge to their more recent, evolving sound.

The dam has broken, and their third studio album is wrapping up now. Stay tuned for an announcement here as well as global touring plans.
