Sports Boyfriend - Slice of Life

Chicago indie rock band Sports Boyfriend have announced the release of their debut full-length album, Slice of Life, out now via their own label, Body Rust. The record marks a significant shift in sound and technique for the band, who spent the last ten years quietly building out a catalogue of critically acclaimed singles and one EP, 2020’s Seek No Answer in a hazy bedroom-pop style. Slice of Life is a collection of 10 tight guitar rock tracks that flit across styles and tempos, rooted by a muscular rhythm section & inspired by the cast of characters and fleeting connections encountered across years of service and office jobs.

Sports Boyfriend began as the solo project of songwriter Eileen Peltier. After tiring of writing and recording alone on a laptop in her apartment, and during a month-long break between jobs, Eileen sketched out 10 songs on acoustic guitar and presented them to the band to be developed together. Recorded at Jamdek with producer Doug Malone, the album was made without click tracks & with minimal overdubs to try to capture the songs in their most spontaneous form. “I wanted to change the creative process and texture as much as possible without losing the sentiment of the songs themselves.” said Eileen, on the new process.
