Slow Motion Sadface - Sea Change (of Just the Tide) [EP]

Bad Catt/Mint 400

Slow Motion Sadface captures a specific kind of late-night unease—the kind that feels momentous in real time, only to dissolve under closer inspection” – Blood Makes Noise

“Melancholic and introspective indie rock explores the vertigo of searching for absolute truths in places where there is nothing to be found” – Zone Nights

Unlike prior releases by Slow Motion Sadface, Sea Change (or Just the Tide) is a collective effort. After tearing through just about every other musician on craigslist, singer/guitarist JT finally found the guys who are the right spice for the Slowmo gumbo. The record was recorded and written at a home studio by JT, and while guitarist Jim Poole is the only other musician to feature on the record, the early jams with the whole band – with Drummer Christian Cortes and Bassist Jeff Muckensturm – helped flesh out these songs in a way that he wouldn’t have been able to alone.

The EP itself is a compilation of songs about uncertainty, the fear of the unknown, and the ways we deal with the human condition. Sparked, quite literally, by a lightning storm in San Diego, Sea Change takes the listener through the journey from the start of an idea, through the self-doubt and anxiety of making something out of it. It’s a reflection on the opportunities we miss while making choices, even right choices. And at times it’s a celebration of the rush you get from taking a chance, and how sweet it feels to succeed by sheer gumption and grit. It’s ultimately about how, for better and for worse, life is what you make of it.
