Hundreds of AU - Life in Parallel
“One of the most interesting and ear-shattering screamy post hardcore acts in recent years… devastatingly gorgeous.” – IDIOTEQ
How can you explain growing up in New Jersey to an outsider? It’s a place with many faces: the wilderness of the far north, the hustle of the Manhattan suburbs, the tourist culture invading the beach towns three months out of the year, the rural south, the forgotten/impoverished cities and the congestion clogging the roads linking them all together. What’s left but fertile ground, festering with disdain for overdevelopment, capitalism, and humanity.
Forever grateful for the outlet that punk and hardcore continue to provide, Hundreds of AU channels this chaos into a sharp critique of the emotional and physical exhaustion of surviving in a place built to crush them,
Formed in late 2017 by a crew of DIY lifers from bands like You and I, The Assistant, and Hell Mary, Hundreds of AU channels decades of hardcore urgency into something volatile and vital. Chaotic riffs, blistering tempos, and elegant but sometimes jagged melodies collide in songs that confront personal struggle and systemic failure head-on. It’s an urgent, honest, and completely unrelenting sound—hardcore for anyone still chasing passion in the underground.
Life in Parallel, the fifth LP from Hundreds of AU, examines the hopelessness of modern life set to a soundtrack that encompasses both soaring melody and incoherent chaos. With a perspective bleeding with adulthood, but giving space to the coming of age experience in New Jersey, “Life in Parallel” weaves a narrative arc that reflects on middle age through the lens of a New Jersey coming-of-age—blending sharp social commentary with deeply personal storytelling. The album explores political unrest, the weight of loss, the hope found in parenthood, and the emotional complexity of growing older in a world that’s left us behind.”
This album premiers vocalist Brian (Lesser Minds) and bassist Buzz (Pellinore/The Banner), the two adding their own flavor and dimension to the bands pre-established brand of hardcore, screamo and punk. The band is graced with guest appearances by Geoff Rickley (Thursday/United Nations), Jon Tumillo (Folly), Ryann Slauson (Sonagi/Closer) and Adam Kaniper (Stress Spells), cementing a deeper texture of friendship and experience into the canvas of the songs.
Tracked by Joe Egan at Missile Silo Studios and mixed/mastered by John Howard at Warhouse Studios, the album channels sonic urgency and emotional weight—capturing the desperation, immediacy, and raw honesty woven throughout all ten songs.
Brought to you by the team at Iodine Recordings, we hope you can connect with Life in Parallel in a way that lets you know you’re not alone out there, that it’s okay to feel hopeless sometimes, and most of all, we can lift each other up with our expression of empathy.
