Yawn Mower
"In one of this country’s finest small-town music scenes, Asbury Park NJ duo Yawn Mower have been winning over audiences since their inception with their infectious fuzz-rock stylings and irreverent sense of humor." - Impose Magazine
“You guys sound like what would happen if Nirvana and Cake had a baby and Ty Segall was the godfather.” - Random gig-goer.
"I don't know what their original plans were for Yawn Mower; but, whatever they had in mind, they've grown into one of the most reliably fun and interesting bands in Asbury Park. From originals to original takes on cover songs, the pair have never been afraid to stretch themselves." - CoolDad Music
Yawn Mower (YM) is a two-piece unit comprised of Mike Chick (baritone guitar/vocals) and Biff Swenson (drums/vocals). YM hails from Asbury Park and Philadelphia and has been in existence since 2015. YM plays live on a regular basis and in the past year has played shows from NJ to NY to New Hampshire to Denver, CO to SXSW. Biff’s favorite pasta is gnocchi, while Mike enjoys ditalini.
Why Work Harder Than You Have To (WWHTYHT) is YM’s 3rd EP release for Mint 400 Records and 5th overall EP release (in addition to several remix and cover releases). WWHTYHT contains five songs, all released in the 1990’s by recording artists They Might Be Giants, Beck, The Promise Ring, The Presidents Of The USA and Tom Petty. Some familiar, some not so familiar.
While recording their EP, Could Eat, Would Sleep at Insidious Sounds with Paul Richie, Biff decided to record the drum tracks to these five songs to keep “in the bag”. In late 2018, YM brought these drum tracks to Pat Noon at Eight Sixteen Studios to finish for future releases. However, the songs started to come together so nicely that the duo thought, “Why break these five up?” “Why not release them all as one EP?” “Why work harder than you have to?”. Following mastering by Azimuth Mastering, WWHTYHT was born and will be available on all streaming platforms and YM’s Bandcamp page starting 3/22/19.
