NJ band Trü follow up last year’s self-titled debut EP with a brand new one entitled Growing Pains. The band plays a blend of fuzzed-out power pop with hooks that use oversharing as a form of therapy for what life dishes out. “The Graduate” kicks everything off with the crunchy hooks and bright guitar leads of early Weezer. Title track “Growing Pains” recalls the underlying strife and darkness of Dear You-era Jawbreaker as well as Title Fight’s Floral Green. The driving “Same Conversation, Different Day” captures the intensity and deep guitar wail of early Ride, complete with Teenage Fanclub vocal harmonies between singer/guitarists Keith Williams (also of LKFFCT) and Pat Defrancisci as well as bassist Cindy Ward.
If you have a penchant for melodic indie rock and heavy power pop than Trü is the scratch for just that itch.
