The Self-Righteous Brothers Announce Debut Release In Loving Memory Of… on Black & Greene Records

The Self Righteous Brothers are neither self-righteous, nor are they brothers. Their name is merely an effort to lift the spirits of the heavy-hearted. What they are is a soul inspired, experimental rock band. You may say they, “play what you kids like to call post-punk, but without a lot of the forced irony.” You may also say they are “best described as the musical equivalent of Bugs Bunny.” Or, you could say that they have created a “strange and wonderful record” in their debut release, In Loving Memory Of… What is certain about the The Self Righteous Brothers, is that they have a very eclectic sound, which derives itself directly from their rich, respectful knowledge of music history. They spend little time concerning themselves with the continuity of their songs, worrying only about making each song as interesting and unique as possible. This has kept them form becoming yet another band whose hyper-consciousness and ego overshadows their love and respect for music itself.

Press:
“The Self-Righteous Brothers’ approach is influenced by Mass. rock’s indie forefathers: There’s a lot of complicated cacophony in their sound But while the foundation is based on Central Square’s best alums, they’ve built far beyond that in the three years since the band’s founding. As good as [Mission of Burma] was (and is), it never layered its music with slap bass, harmonica solos, banjo twang and honky tonk piano fills, or transitioned from Deep Purple-heavy riffs to a shuffling, 3/4-time hoedown in a single song” – Boston Herald

“raw, energetic…accompanied by a raucous E-Street Band-esque horn section. Their unpolished breed of 70s rock with modern indie influence, The Self Righteous Brother’s meandering sound translate[s] well from record to stage – the kind of sound that seems like it might fall apart at any moment and you have to keep listening to find out if it does.” – Northeast Performer

“Aggressive guitar soloing, Replacements-like party ethic, experimental hell-bent for nowhere sensible song forms (one in 7/4 time). This is the coolest band I’ve seen in town for a long stretch.” – The Weekly Dig
