The French Goodbye
VROOM! is the new album from The French Goodbye, created long distance between Tony Mendoza (Chicago) and Thea Lux (Los Angeles). Over a 2,000-mile trail of digital transmissions, the duo mixed fuzzy guitars, vintage keyboards, and restless drums with haunting harmonies and psychedelic ear jerky.
VROOM!'s 12 songs zoom by in less than half an hour, making it the perfect record for today’s rock listener on the go. It's got riffs (“Clown Room”, “Lump It”), Stranger Things synths (“Okay?” “My Birthday”), and climate change affected surf music (“Poolside”, “Sixto”). “The Tiger” marries a White Stripes guitar lick with Raiders of The Lost Arc face-melting terror. In the garage-burner “Shee,” Tony Mendoza’s anti-solo evokes a sick guitar blowing its nose. Thea Lux’s harmonies sweeten the deal on album-opener “Seasons,” the malt shoppe pop of “Dwight,” the psychonautical wanderlust of “The Peyote Coyote,” and the hangdog rally cry “Stay.”
