"....melding jangly rock and a little bit of country influence, with nods to later-era Replacements, Buffalo Tom, the Lemonheads and maybe a little Teenage Fanclub..." - Indie Pages

"...reminiscent of The Replacements and fellow Jerseyites The Smithereens..." - Absolute Power Pop

"...a perfect mixture of the guts n' determination of The Jam (or The Clash) mixed with the vulnerability of say, The Replacements. " - Dagger

After a 5 year gap, The Brixton Riot have returned with a new album entitled Close Counts, available on Mint 400 Records. The 11 track LP is a follow-up to 2012's highly praised debut, Palace Amusements. The New Jersey quartet has spent the last few years writing new music, playing shows throughout the Northeast US and releasing several compilation tracks and a few holiday singles for Jon Solomon's longstanding holiday marathon on WPRB. Close Counts continues to blend the band's love of alternative, indie and punk music. Their musical influences, heard throughout Close Counts, include bands such as The Lemonheads, Superdrag and Sugar, and harmony laden power pop that leans towards Big Star and Teenage Fanclub.

Recorded and engineered by music veteran J. Robbins (Jawbox, Office of Future Plans, Channels) at his Baltimore based studio Magpie Cage, the album combines the band's live energy with a full organic sound. The basic tracks of all eleven songs were recorded live to tape over a two day, 20 hour span. Robbin's clean and direct production work on albums like Jets To Brazil's Orange Rhyming Dictionary drew the band to Magpie Cage and the partnership paid serious dividends - Close Counts exudes an unfussed raw energy that their previous recordings only hinted at.

While the band remained active over the last five years, the road to Close Counts was difficult, filled with highs and lows - births, deaths, a new marriage, a dearly departed spouse and the overall struggle to find balance and happiness in these uncertain times. Close Counts documents The Brixton Riot's past five years while laying a blueprint for their future over its running time and invites the listener to get lost in its songs, offering both community and catharsis to anyone who wants it.
