Streight Angular
After And Before
Polk Records
ADDS 11/2/10

"Most of all, After and Before just feels like a good time. It's as if you have been invited to a party and everyone is singing and you just can't help but sing along. One of the best party vibes on this album comes from the closing track, "The Beginning of the End," which urges you to "drink the pop because it's cheaper than water." And that, in the end, is what Streight Angular is all about: fizzy and sweet, unlike the plain and dull tones of water." - Max Specht (Performer Magazine)

"Are You Ever Satisfied” is a musical journey through relationship psychology. The lovers’ exchange of “Are you ever satisfied/No I'm never satisfied” reaches hypnotic levels over a Pixies-esque alt-rock groove before frontman Al Polk crashes the spoken lyrical volley with a heavy, baritone-fed chorus. Then midway through, like most relationships, it gets messy...the track becomes fidgety, restless, and intentionally f*cked up, like a slowly disappearing Michael J. Fox playing guitar with Marvin Berry & the Starlighters during the climactic scene of Back to the Future. Before flying off the rails completely, it eases back into its boy vs. girl discourse about satisfaction. It’s a trip." - Boston Phoenix

Streight Angular is heavily influenced by the work of K Records founder Calvin Johnson. The band is signed to Polk Records, a record label that has the mission of building community and supporting the arts.
