Stag Frenzy is the new outfit of Ayal Nistor. Nistor, born and raised in Israel, moved at the age of 5 with the family to Seattle for a year that changed his life. “I always knew I would be coming back, and that this is my second home”. He spent his twenties in Tel Aviv with his band ‘My Second Surprise’. The band gradually shrunk to a duo for a few years, and by the time the debut album was out (which they recorded with Lenny Ben Basat)- his partner Shimon Regev had also departed, making it a solo outfit.

Nistor left Israel in 2004, first stop was in Brighton UK for a year. During that year, while writing and demoing the second album - he released the debut album ‘Avoidance As A Way Of Life under his own ‘StagFrenzy Recordings’ imprint. The album- an eclectic collection of Indie-Pop songs, was accepted with raving reviews in Israel. Its debut music video for the song ‘Perfect Cure’ won the Israeli ‘Ami’ award, appeared on MTV Europe and was chosen for the Canadian Indie Music Video Festival (IMVF). Nistor signed with EMI Music Publishing and moved to The States.

After playing SXSW 2007 he settled in San Francisco and recorded the sophomore effort for ‘My Second Surprise’- titled ‘Time To Move On’. This time Nistor played all of the instruments, except for strings and horns. He flew to Tucson AZ to mix the album with Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Devotchka, Neko Case). The album - which was mellower than the first- was released in 2009 and again, was embraced by the Israeli critics - placing it as one of the top Israeli releases of the year.

While working on the third album - Nistor decided make a change. “I felt like this wasn’t a third album- I had evolved to a new phase- it felt like a debut album to me”. He cut out a bunch of the new songs, took three songs from the second album and partially re-recorded them. They were added to five new songs- which together comprised the debut album of a new outfit- Stag Frenzy. On this album, which was recorded in his home studio in the Richmond District of San Francisco, California- Nistor again played all of the instruments, except for horns. And indeed, this album is different from his previous work- it is more upbeat and dirty. But even with its new sound, Nistor’s songs still have a distinct Pop soul behind them, with strong hooks and his unique melodic sensitivities.
