The latest release from Spirit Kid, a five-song EP titled Happiness, is a mixture of solo-produced material (much like the debut album) and snapshots in time of the band's different line ups. Recorded in several studios over the course of seven months, the final product was mixed and mastered by TW Walsh (Pedro the Lion, The Soft Drugs) who put on the finishing touches.

The final outcome sees a more hi-fi approach than than previous Spirit Kid releases, yet with just as much thought given to the songwriting and production craft. 12-string guitars, organs, vocoders, and percussion litter the arrangements, and, in traditional Spirit Kid form, vocal harmonies are abundant over the course of the five songs.

As Boston's Weekly Dig puts it, "Brian Wilson would be proud." They go on to say "Happiness captures the exuberance of [Spirit Kid's] live show."

Spirit Kid's pride in their live show is well-founded, as they were nominated in the "Best Live Band" category in the 2011 WFNX Best Music Poll and finalists in the 2011 WBCN Rock n Roll Rumble.

"It's been a good year for the 'Kid," says Michael Marotta of the Boston Phoenix, and with no signs of slowing down, the best is yet to come.
