Small Batch is a five-piece collective from Lexington, KY whose members two-time it with at least a dozen other musical outfits. The band is raw, real and honest, as much at home on a front porch as in a dive bar or an opera house, as much paying homage to what's come before as bearing witness to what will come. While often called an Americana act, Small Batch's sound is a whole lot wrigglier and raucous than that. They steal and borrow from everywhere — country, bluegrass, folk singers, blues and rock and roll. The band plays mostly original songs written and sung by the three different songwriters in the band, and there is more than a little harmony that happens all the time. There are also plenty of expletives and emotions as the band winds its way though songs about drinking, cheating, family, fear, love and floods and hate.

Without a doubt the best thing about the band is the five of them together. Started on a lark by Tree Jackson, who sings and plays rhythm guitar in the band, the other members include Warren Byrom on vocals and lead guitar, Reva Russell English on vocals and banjo, Scott Wilmoth on upright bass, and Robby Cosenza on vocals, drums and harmonica. Small Batch sounds and feels exactly like its name: a good and unique blend of some of the best music around. Their debut album, True Loves, sold out of its first printing and will be re-released this summer.
