Samantha Farrell has been staking out her own middle ground between folk, jazz, and R&B infused indie-pop, to much critical acclaim. Her latest release, September Sun, entirely self-produced and engineered at her home studio, has been making waves locally and is in heavy rotation at WUMB, where DJ Brendan Hogan has already called it “one of his favorite albums of the year.” It blends lush and lonely string arrangements with sparse jazz piano, honeyed tenor sax and urgent pop melodies. Farrell burst onto the music scene in 2009 with her album Luminous, produced by LeRoi Moore, the late saxophonist of the Dave Matthews Band. It shot to #7 on the iTunes pop charts, while five of the songs were placed on major television shows. She is currently planning an east coast tour starting in late October.
