Sam Bisbee is a Songwriter, Composer, Screenwriter, Music Producer and Film Producer. But in 2011, Sam Bisbee the recording artist returns with his new album YOU + ME = US, produced by Dean Baltulonis (Hold Steady), mixed by grammy winner Emery Dobyns (Suzzanne Vega, Travis), and featuring cover photography by director/cinematographer Lance Acord (baby darth vader, lost in translation, being john malcovitch).

In 2008, NETTWERK MUSIC GROUP, impressed with Sam’s songwriting, signed Sam to a publishing deal, where he has since written songs with Leona Naess, Pete Wentz, Mike Viola (Get Him to the Greek), Justin Hawkins (The Darkness), Delerium, Gary Go, Toby Lightman, Ari Hest, Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra) and many more. And at the same time as embarking on a career as a Songwriter (as opposed to an artist), Sam also embarked on a suprising side career as a Screenwriter and Film Producer. With his Screenwriting partner Joe Vinciguerra, Sam has written 3 scripts with Director/actor Vincent D’onofrio including DON’T GO IN THE WOODS a slasher musical directed by D’onofrio (which Sam also wrote all of the songs for and executive produced) and the script adaptation of Eric Bogosian’s novel MALL. Don’t Go In the Woods has just been purchased by TRIBECA FILMS for fall 2011 release. In 2010 Sam was also a producer (and sang the song in the end credits) for the Academy Award winning LIVE ACTION SHORT “The new Tenants”.

When Sam was 10 years old, he took a city bus into Harvard Square and purchased 2 music books: THE BEATLES MADE EASY FOR GUITAR, and NEIL YOUNG’S HARVEST. Armed with his mother’s discarded folk guitar, he taught himself LET IT BE by the end of that day and continued to teach himself throughout his childhood. By the time Sam graduated from Columbia College in 1990 he’d developed a following in NYC for his quirky, pop songs and was discovered first through a development deals with BMG and GEFFEN, a record deal with EMI, followed by a record on Ron Fierstien’s Plump records with his band BISBEE and an accompanying publishing deal with Warner Tamerlane.

In 1999, with the birth of his daughter, Sam decided to take a break from music. The break didn’t last long. He called up all of his friends in 2000 and made his album VEHICLE, which lead to fantastic reviews, a brand new following and, thanks to licensing, the ability to support himself making music. VEHICLE was followed 2 years later by HIGH, also a licensing success, and then came OXYGEN. 2008 brought Sam’s 4th CD “SON OF A MATH TEACHER” which was released on boutique indie label LE GRAND MAGISTERY, with songs licensed for numerous TV shows including PRIVATE PRACTICE and DAMAGES.

During these years Sam was also building his reputation as a songwriter, composer and music producer. He composed the original score in 2000 for WILDFLOWERS (starring Daryl Hanah and Eric Roberts), the score in 2004 for the UNDESERVED bought by IFC, and then in 2008 PAPER COVERS ROCK also bought by IFC. Sam produced Cat Power’s version of HANGING ON THE TELEPHONE for the ATT commercial, leading to over 30 different ads for which Sam has written or produced the music for clients including VW, GM, Ford, ATT. In 2008, Sam, with producer Britt Myers, discovered a singer named RENI LANE, and, after introducing her to Linda Perry’s label CUSTARD, wrote and produced half the songs for her debut album on UNIVERSAL MOTOWN records. It was this that brought Sam to NETTWERK’s attention.

And now, Sam returns with YOU + ME = US, recorded and produced by Dean Baltunolis at WILD ARCTIC in long island city, mixed by grammy winner Emery Dobyns, and featuring the first ever cover photography by director/cinematographer Lance Acord (baby darth vader, lost in translation, being john malcovitch). The album features 12 new songs about, as Sam says, “sex, love, marriage, death, divorce, rainbows, sex, marriage and death”. The album contains some of Bisbee’s most honest songs, including US, which Sam was asked by WNYC to write for a piece about divorce, with the question: “what did your parents fight about?” The song brought Sam right back to where he was that day in 1978 when Bucky Dent broke the red sox’s heart, and Sam at age 10, walked into the music store to buy the books that would give him the gift of a lifetime of music.
