In late 2006 Ricky Lee Robinson began collecting snippets of inspiration for what we now know to be his upcoming debut full-length, Secret Love Tricks. But he doesn't rely solely on his own life experiences to fuel his creativity. If you have ever written anything online, he may have found a muse in you! It all begins with a title: "When I find something I like, I write it down underneath the title. My favorite sources were online diaries, and public domain stuff from the 19th century."

Ricky Lee Robinson is an Oakland transplant originally from New Jersey, who discovered he had the ability to play multiple instruments simultaneously in the midst of performing a repertoire of 70s covers at Berkeley's Starry Plough. In 2005, he took a modified $100 drum set, an overdriven acoustic guitar, and a 1960s piano with a cracked soundboard, and went on to write and record a 9-song demo. What resulted was a stack of weirdly rock'n'roll, somewhat Beatles-esque, peculiarly one-man-bandy 2 minute pop songs. He dubbed his demo Mushu Pork. The disc wound up unexpectedly on college radio, garnering significant airplay on over 120 stations across the United States.
Encouraged by this success, he took his one-man-band on the road in 2007. He performed at Seattle's Stiffs Indie Film Festival along with dates in Portland, Eugene, New York, and Los Angeles. More shows, including the last of the Wednesday night 'Hoot' series at San Francisco's Rickshaw Stop, led to Ricky's appearance in San Francisco Magazine's 'Best Of' issue, which also featured a picture of Ricky in front of his mailbox. Ricky Lee has recently appeared with Bobby Conn, Todd Rundgren, and The Dilletantes (Joel Gion from Brian Jonestown Massacre).
