So Much Imagine, the third album from Sweden’s Marching Band, marks a return to the duo’s DIY roots while maintaining their trademark sound of intricate melodies and complex arrangements with an effortless, undeniable pop-feeling. The 21-track, self-produced project from Linköping’s Jacob Lind and Erik Sunbring released digitally and on vinyl on January 21st, 2014 in North America on U & L Records and in Europe on UNCrecords. During release week the album streamed on the homepages of The Big Takeover and Prefix.
The Swedish indie-pop darling of such U.S. tastemakers as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, NPR and KCRW created So Much Imagine with a lighter and rawer approach than their previous releases, showcasing their maturity since their wildly popular 2008 debut Spark Large, produced by Adam Lasus (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Yo La Tengo).
“This album is as much ‘we’ as it gets,” says Marching Band. “It’s a really personal recording, showing the differences between the two of us as songwriters and how our opinions sometimes differ. The songs cover a broad spectrum of styles and emotions, and the lyrics are unfiltered versions of our private thoughts.”
Erik’s cousin, Henrik Sunbring, mixed at his studio Helter Skelter in Stockholm, Sweden. “Henrik added a real family feel to the process,” says Marching Band. “He kept the sound clear and simple like we wanted it to be, while improving what we had already done.” For fans of guitar-driven, melodic indie-pop, especially those with a flair for retro-sounding music and unprocessed vocals, is the perfect addition to their daily playlist.
In 2008, Marching Band released their first full-length album on U & L Records. Upon hearing it, Rolling Stone’s “Hype Monitor” wrote, “The Swedish duo crafts their own brand of pillowy pop, brightened with bands of psychedelia.” The band quickly gained early radio support in Los Angeles when tracks from the debut surfaced on KCRW and INDIE 103.1. In the months to follow their music found fans at NPR where they were featured on “World Café,” “Second Stage” and “Song of the Day.” Marching Band was also featured in Billboard’s “Underground Column” and got the attention of one of the most discerning critics – Pitchfork.
Since then, Marching Band has earned the attention of music supervisors for both film and TV. Their songs have been featured in Zombieland (Sony Picture Entertainment), Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist (Sony Pictures), 90210 (CW), How I Met Your Mother (CBS), Scrubs (ABC), The Ex List (CBS), My New BFF (MTV), My Life As Liz (MTV), Jersey Shore (MTV), Greek (ABC), and Cougar Town (ABC).
