Los Shut Up was an underground rock band formed from Chicago's comedic improv scene in The Year 2000. The members all hated the band name, but it was one thing they could agree on. Chris Churchill (guitar, vocals) and Tony Mendoza (drums, vocals) wrote short quirky songs about things and nothing.

Before recording their debut EP Bigote Edition, original bassist Dave Aitken left the band. The group appointed Joanna Buese as his replacement. Holly Lipper augmented the group's odd 12-string sound with melodic lead guitar.

Live shows incorporated kooky props like tents and ice sandwiches. Often Tony played a cheap electronic toy kit with carrots. On one occasion a meandering guitar solo came to a halt when Chris was tackled by Tony. It was messy, silly fun.

By 2004 it had become too much fun, so the band called it quits. They recorded a number of songs that sat in tape boxes until released in 2017 on the comprehensive studio retrospective Friend Club. They still think the band name is dumb.
