DIGITAL ONLY

LKFFCT (Lake Effect) return with their second album The Flower Investment Pawn, the band’s follow-up to last year’s debut, American Sarcasm. The hooks are even sharper this time out and songs like “Howlin’ Alarm”, “Appleseed”, “Cure-All” and “Tide” recall Blue Album era Weezer and Guided By Voices in all their power pop glory. Meanwhile, “Duffle Bags” showcases a slower, psychedelic aspect of the band and the righteous indignation of “Milk the Cow” scorches the Earth with its noisy guitar blast, finding a middle ground between Nirvana and Captain Beefheart. The four-piece conjures the sort of underdog reckless abandon once favored by The Replacements. Guitarists Keith Williams and Max Rauch trade off on lead vocals and songwriting, complementing each other as often times Williams is the sincerity to Rauch’s sarcasm.
