Oh, Please
Mint 400 / Sniffling Indie Kids

DIGITAL ONLY

Dollys, based out of New Brunswick, NJ’s legendary indie rock scene, mine Beach Boys harmonies with their own take on the surf-influenced pop rock that the ‘Boys’ specialized in. “Oh, Please”, the band’s new full-length, carries a timeless quality due to it’s live to tape recording. Drummer Natalie Newbold and bassist Erik Romero play with a purposeful simplicity that allows the vocals of Newbold and guitarist Jeff Lane to shine through each track, propelled by a thicket of subtly dense harmonies. Newbold sings with the earnestness of someone like Alvvays vocalist Molly Rankin and Lane’s Jazzmaster (which he built himself) chimes through like Johnny Marr with a Ventures fetish. On opener “Shameful”, Newbold announces their new album with “Who cares if we wait a while/ who cares if it’s not in style.” The sentiment is noted. With an album like “Oh, Please”, being hip or of the moment simply doesn’t matter. The songs speak for themselves.
