C.R. and the Degenerates is the product of NJ singer/songwriter Chris Gennone recording with producer/engineer/drummer Max Rauch (LKFFCT, NGHTCRWLRS) and collaborating with Keith Williams (LKFFCT, Ice Giant). Gennone has been recording music for years, playing in several renowned local bands, all the while making solo records under his own name. With his debut album Salt of the Earth as C.R. and the Degenerates, Gennone really comes in to his own as a songwriter. Songs like “Western Upholstery Supply” and “Edge of Hell, Kansas City” explore themes of working class escapism that Bruce Springsteen built his career on to music that recalls Neil Young in his prime with a heavy dose of punk rock. Of course this music isn’t any kind of retread, instead blurring these classic rock sounds with a modern psychedelia, bringing to mind the War on Drugs, Kurt Vile and Jason Molina’s Songs: Ohia albums in the process.
