COWGILL - an eclectic, indie folk rock sextet hailing from Boston - is set to release its Kickstarter-funded debut, Side One of Planted, on May 17th. Penned by frontman Paul Cowgill and arranged by the band, the music hovers between an upbeat pop sensibility and a darker folk rock side, with their first single drawing comparisons to... The band’s inventive song structures take listeners on a familiar yet unpredictable journey with this diverse collection of songs. Their blend of indie rock and folk music nimbly hops between many forms - from 60s rock to newgrass - and none are spared on this release. These tunes will appeal to fans of Dr. Dog, The Head and the Heart, Radiohead, and The Shins alike.
COWGILL is Paul Cowgill (vocals, acoustic guitar), Mike Truskowski (piano, backup vocals, trombone), Dan Weissman (mandolin, backup vocals, trumpet), Leeann Hackett (violin), Ryan Rivers (bass guitar) and their newest member, Joe Pess (drums).
The band will celebrate the release of their debut with a show at The Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge, MA on 5/17. Recording for the second half of Planted begins in the Fall, after a multi-week through the Midwest and East Coast.
