Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck have confirmed a March 5 release date for their new album Eden. Written almost entirely on electric banjo, the album fuses experimental elements with Americana, rock, bluegrass, and folk, resulting in a singular, progressive sound that has earned the Vermont-based band descriptions ranging from “Green Mountain soul” to “modern backwoods music.”

The album is co-produced/engineered by Justin Guip, who won 3 Grammys for his work with the legendary Levon Helm. Thayer is also well known for his collaborations with Helm, who played drums on his album Spend It All, and has been invited to perform six times at Helm’s famous Midnight Ramble concerts.

The release marks Thayer's third album with Perfect Trainwreck, a collection of accomplished musicians whose talents have allowed him to put down the six-string in favor of an amplified five-string banjo that adds intricacy without sacrificing depth. Eden also represents the culmination of a musical journey for Thayer, which began when he left behind the urban comforts of his hometown Boston for the isolation of Vermont’s Green Mountains.

Vermont’s music fans quickly embraced Thayer’s sound, so much so that his band’s fast rise in popularity prompted one local newspaper to predict that they’ll soon become the state’s “third nationally acclaimed band” (following Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Phish).

“Not many people move to Vermont to pursue a career in music. But for me, it felt right, because the most important thing for me was to be able to write with my own voice,” says Thayer. “Because Vermont is so isolated and rural, I feel like I’m looking at society as an outsider, which is a big part of my perspective on this record. It also feels like we are in a bubble trapped in time in many ways. It’s beautiful and weird.”
