PIRATE!: PUBLICITY and SPECIALTY
Yeah, you guessed it, Pirate! is growing this summer. We are very excited about a “new” addition, and an old favorite with a new job title too! So without any delay, here are some updates!
-PUBLICITY!
Pirate! is pleased to announce the launch of its new PR department headed up by Brooke Black. We’re very excited to be working with Brooke again as she has been in the music PR game for several years working with companies like Hopper PR in Chicago, Southern Records UK, The Planetary Group, Fanatic Promotion and now Pirate! She has built up a vast amount of relationships over the years ranging from top-tier media to the more finely-tuned “tastemaker” zines, sites and blogs. She continues to further develop these contacts, always keeping her head in the media with eyes and ears open to discover new and exciting happenings in music, film and art.
In the past Brooke has worked with: DeSoto, Polyvinyl, Morr Music, Bar None, Southern UK (Frenchkiss Records, Dischord, Constellation/Kranky, Tolotta, Thick Records), Plug Research, Paper Bag Records, Friendly Fire Recordings, Eenie Meenie, GSL, Troubleman Unlimited, Silverthree, Flameshovel, Architecture In Helsinki, I Am The World Trade Center, Saxon Shore, Of Montreal, Asobi Seksu, Styrofoam, Page France, Acid House Kings, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, GoGoGo Airheart, Amusement Parks On Fire, The Octopus Project, Dirty Projectors, Rob Swift, Lali Puna, The Free Design, and many more.
The department covers national, regional/tour, and online press and will always pride itself on maintaining a roster of high-quality bands that we truly believe in and will fully dedicate ourselves to.
Writers please keep an eye out for one of our first releases to come your way, none other than David & the Citizen’s new full-length “Until the Sadness is Gone” coming out on Friendly Fire Recordings.
-RADIO!
As if having college promotion, Non-Comm AAA promotion, press and management didn’t make us seem “well-rounded” enough, we have also launched a commercial specialty promotion department. Taking the reigns is our very own Bethany Pickard, who joined the Pirate family in June of ’04. In addition to her experience as music director of Bellingham, WA’s KUGS and her two years (and counting!) of working with our college department, Bethany is active in the Boston music scene, booking shows through her production company Team Courage and DJing every Saturday at The Plan at Great Scott. She’s pleased that now, when labels and bands ask “do you guys do specialty?….” she will be able to answer with an ecstatic “YES! YES! YES!”
The college department continues to thrive taking home CMJ Most Added honors the past 3 weeks in a row! Thanks to those of you who have in any way supported the New York Dolls, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and Canada (no not our promoter Canada, the band Canada).
